Marilyn E. Wood
Revenue Commissioner

"We, the employees of the Revenue Commissioner's Office, strive for excellence in service to all citizens."

Mobile County Alabama encompasses 1,239.8 square miles or approximately 800,000 acres of land. For taxing purposes, the land is divided into over 200,000 parcels of land that is documented on 2,535 tax maps maintained by the Revenue Commission. Each parcel of land is assessed to the property owner, appraised, and taxed depending on it's usage.

In Mobile County, 128,733 parcels are assessed as single family dwellings, while 43,172 are designated as apartment, rental and commercially held properties. The balance, over 435,000 acres are taxed under the states current use law as farm or timberland. In addition to real property in Mobile County, the Revenue Commissioner collects business personal property tax assessed on 21,000 individual and corporate businesses. Property taxes collected generate revenue that make up the tax base for Mobile County providing infrastructure and public services vital to our community.

Property owners in Alabama are eligible for the homestead exemption on the property occupied as their primary residence. Alabama property owners are allowed only one homestead exemption regardless of how many different parcels of land they may own in the state. Additional exemptions are available based on age, income, and disability. Exempt property may also include those used exclusively for educational, religious, or charitable purposes.

The Revenue Commissioner is charged with the mapping, appraisal, and assessing of all property in Mobile County under the laws of the State of Alabama. All tax money collected on real and personal property ad valorem accounts for the State, County, and Municipal governments are disbursed back to those government entities that provide service to it's citizens. The Mobile County Revenue Commissioner's Office has four offices serving the public in convenient locations throughout Mobile County. All offices are open from 8:00am until 5:00pm Monday through Friday. A seasonal office located in the Citronelle City Hall is open from October through April, 9:00am until 4:00pm to assist taxpayers in North Mobile County.
